
The imagine.. report Den danske ophavsretsøkonomi - Rapport 2006 * maps the economic significance of copyrights in the Danish economy using statistic indicators of economic importance: number of companies, number of employees, turnover and value added by the copyright industries.

The core copyright industries only make up 3-4% of the Danish business and employees, however, these industries manage to create 5 % of the total Danish turnover of the value added - the value added within these industries are twice of the national average.
Though the copyright industries only make up about 11 % of the Danish companies and only employ about the same share of the Danish labour force they do contribute with 16 % of all turnover and 17 % of the value added in Denmark.
The copyright dependent industries only make up about 1,5 % of all Danish companies and employees, but creates 2,5 % of all value added and have an impression turnover making up 4 % of the total Danish turnover.
The copyright related industries makes up about 6 % of all Danish companies and though the rates are not as impressing as for the other two groups of industries, the copyright related industries do perform better than the national average.
More numbers
In 2003 there were a total of 275.712 firms in Denmark and 326.714 workplaces, of these 31.704 firms and 37.292 workplaces were within the copyright industries.
In total the copyright industries make up around 3,5 % of all Danish firms and a slightly larger amount of all Danish workplaces. The copyright industry, which amounts to the largest number of firms and workplaces, is the press- and literature industry, which amounts to about 1 % of the Danish industry.
The radio- and television industry make up 2 % of the total turnover and 3 % of the total value added from the copyright industries. Press and literature makes up 1,5 % of the total turnover of the Danish industry and a value added of 2 %. Software- database- and advertising industries makes up around 0,5 % of the value added.


The data used is provided by Statistics Denmark. Choice of statistic data is based on the guidelines of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the EU Commissions analysis of the economic impact of copyright (EU Commission 2003). The data used to indicate economic impact are focused on three perspectives: number of companies, number of employees and creation of value measured as turnover and value added.
